Pamukkale ("cotton castle") is a hillside of brilliant white travertine terraces formed by calcium-rich hot springs that have flowed here for thousands of years. The adjoining ruins of ancient Hierapolis make it a combined natural and archaeological UNESCO World Heritage Site.
